The Tango Society of Boston was established by 2 local Tangueros:  Sharukh Merchant and Anne Atheling.

They were ballroom dancers but saw that the community needed a place where they could dance Argentine Tango.  This is when the Tango Society of Boston was born in 1997.  A volunteer organization dedicated to promote Argentine Tango in the Boston community and surroundings.    Ever since,  the Tango Society has brought the best of Argentine performers, musicians, Master teachers to Boston to teach and perform.  The Boston community has grown through these years to become one of the most respected and established organization the the USA.

Anne Atheling had the first vision of a "Tango Festival" and brought it to the community way before we started our Annual Boston Tango Festival.

She brought dancers/performers and other activities to different community organizations, private businesses, etc.  Also, dancers from the community performed in many events throughout Boston and Cambridge.

She worked extremely hard to make sure Tango was well exposed it the Boston community.

We thank both Sharukh and Anne for having the vision to bring Tango to the Boston Community.
